The test plot sizes were 10
feet x 100 feet. Test plot was planted
into commercial field of Crag. Hand
harvested areas were 5 ft x 10 ft and 3 samples per plot. Data reported is mean of 3 harvest
samples. The plant densities for all
varieties other than Carmen and Fasamo were around 80 plants/meter square.
Carmen (fibre variety) was
also planted in this plot. However, due
to very poor germination (poor seed quality) = <20 plants/meter square
number of plants. Also very late in
maturing. Height of plants was 6+
feet. Seed was still very immature and
72% moisture at harvest time.
100 grams of seed has been
saved from each entry for reference.
The UC RGM seed was considerably
darker brown in colour with characteristic stripped. This variety is a fibre variety.
Fasamo also had poor stand..
about 40 plants/ meter square due to poor germination (poor seed quality).
The field was certified
organic and hemp crop was proceeded with spelt under seeded with red clover
fall ploughed in 2003. From the
appearance of the crop (plant height and foliage colour) nitrogen fertility was
lacking, however, crop was not seriously hurting. Weed control was acceptable.
Fasamo and Anka were only
monoecious varieties in trial.
